Hello, I'm Scott

I started out loving music at the age of six. I couldn't wait to play something. I acquired my first little guitar at the age of 8. It looked cool! I felt like I looked cool with it! But I did not know how to play it and it hurt my fingers to hold the strings down to play a note. I decided that was not how it was supposed to be played.

 

Fast forward to junior high, middle school years. Now my friends all were playing guitar and taking lessons. I'd found that alto saxophone was my forte and love by then, but still I wanted to play guitar. We didn't have money or time to drive me to take lessons anywhere at that time, so I began learning from books, playing along with vinyl records and cassette tapes, and I'd do everything my friends (who took lessons) did or showed me. I'd copy whatever I saw other musicians doing live and on TV. Over time, books and with passion for music I began to pick up on music theory and arranging for band and fell in love with jazz. Our high school band even played a couple of my arrangements, thanks to the encouragement and help of my wonderful band teacher!

From there, I attended Drake University for a Music Education degree. But before I completed that I found myself transferring to another college, getting married, having kids and before I knew it, I was giving lessons, performing at all sorts of venues including church worship bands and wound up as a bi-vocational worship pastor and lesson tutor.

These days I find myself still developing my craft, writing songs, preparing music exercises for my students and still performing. I just can't get enough of it! I love sharing my musical passion with others who have the same desire to develop themselves for whatever musical future they aspire to!
